A Droid For Each NFL Team

Super Bowl 50 is going to kick off this Sunday with the Carolina Panthers meeting the Denver Broncos.

What does this have to do with Star Wars you may ask?  Absolutely nothing.  SO… I decided to take matters into my own hands and make sure all the Star Wars fans, that happen to also be football fans, had something a little extra this weekend.  Inspired by the colors of the NFL, I’ve created a little gallery of mascots, if you will, to represent all the teams in the league using the Hasbro and Disney Droid Factory pieces.

Now, I’ll start by saying that I don’t have ALL the pieces that have been available over the last several years.  There are some that would have come in handy which I never managed to get, but my collection is pretty vast and I can say that there is nothing in my collection that I’ve had more fun with recently than these little guys.  You can see them all in the header image in their respective divisions with the Panthers and Broncos at the top and center.   The larger pictures are in the Album HERE.  You can pretty much guess which team each one represents, but how many of you can name them all without looking?

In 2008, Hasbro came up with the idea of a figure that could be pieced together by collecting the different parts that were packed in with their regular 3 3/4″ action figures.  The Build-a-Figure concept wasn’t new, as it had been used to great effect in the Marvel Legends line of action figures since 2005, but it was a new idea for the Star Wars line.  The Droid Factory figures began rolling out, and the concept has since been taken over by Disney.  Disney has had the Build-a-Droid parts at their parks since 2012, offering dozens of parts from which to create your own astromech droid in a variety of colors and styles.

Essentially, all I’ve done with these is mix and match the parts in an attempt to represent the colors of the different NFL teams, but this was no easy task.  Some are certainly better than others.

Check out Disney’s Hollywood Studios or Disney Springs’ Once Upon a Toy in Orlando, or Disneyland in California to create some of your own masterpieces.  C’mon, you know you want to!

Think you could do better?  Share your thoughts and your creations.  I can tell you that I didn’t repaint anything, I just used the parts that have been produced. Congratulations if you recognized that the Dolphins droid is not a build-a-droid… I cheated on that one.

~kknight – is a lifelong Star Wars fanatic that is incredibly excited to be working with T-bone.  Love those droids!  Hopefully you got a ‘kick’ out of seeing these and have a ‘super’ time collecting some of your own.
