George Lucas has stated in many interviews that the heart of the Star Wars saga revolves around the relationship between a father and a son. He might not have had those roles clearly defined at the onset, as evident in the old drafts of the script, but he eventually got the characters there. The role of the son went to young Luke Skywalker, who went on to embark on his “Hero’s Journey” throughout the original trilogy of films. The path was not an easy one.

On The Forest Moon
In Return of the Jedi, there was a large space attack happening above the forest moon of Endor, along with an epic duel between Father and Son, complete with taunting by an evil menace. The battle above Endor was paired with a battle on the surface of the planet that succeeded due to the brave actions of the Rebel Alliance soldiers and those pesky Ewoks.
The Battle Above Endor
The Battle of Endor was the final fight in a long war of Rebellion against a tyrannical Empire. In the end, good prevailed, but not without a really great space battle!
Battle in the Desert
Rescuing Han Solo from the clutches of Jabba the Hutt was no easy task. It took a well-thought out plan consisting of many parts, and relied on cunning and chance. It all concluded with a battle in the Tatooine desert over a mostly underground creature in the sand.
Utapau
The history of the planet Utapau goes all the way back to George Lucas’ original drafts of the first Star Wars film. Fans like myself were very pleased to see the planet finally make it into a film after all those years. It went through many phases of development, but ended up as a green and swampy planet where some important events take place.
To Mustafar and Back
Much like Tatooine, Mustafar was a seemingly insignificant planet, yet it would become the location of galaxy-defining events. Drenched in deep reds and molten imagery, it provided the rich, hell-like backdrop needed for Anakin’s final fall into darkness.
Aggressive Negotiations
In Episode II, Anakin mentions “aggressive negotiations” while telling a story to Padmé. When she inquires as to what that means, he replies, “Negotiations…with a lightsaber.” Many such negotiations took place in the film, and many shots ended up trimmed or deleted from the final cut.
The Battle of Geonosis
The Battle of Geonosis was technically the first big battle of what would become the Clone Wars. This was the first big test of the clone army, created specifically to fight wars and serve as the Grand Army of the Republic. If the clones failed their first test, the war might have ended right then and there. There were many changes from script to screen, so let’s just take a look at some of the major things that were deleted or altered during the battle.
Jedi Detective Work – Kamino
Obi-Wan’s detective work on Coruscant leads him to believe that something is amiss on a planet called Kamino, which seems to be missing from the galaxy maps and Jedi Archives. Sounds like a challenge worthy of a Jedi.
