Senator Amidala seems like a very smart woman. Therefore, I can only attribute her appointing a buffoon like Jar Jar Binks as her representative in the Senate to the stress of dual assassination attempts. That, and the fact that George Lucas is a twisted individual who when faced with the knowledge that people above the age of 13 really despise Jar Jar Binks, gives him a more important role. Whenever we’re talking deleted scenes, anything to do with Jar Jar Binks is something we’re glad to talk about. Let’s have a look at some of his deleted goodness from Episode II<\/em> while we solemnly wish all of his scenes were deleted.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

DIPLODIALECT<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jar Jar, now a member of the Galactic Representative Commission, can’t go around blabbering in his usual tone of voice and expect to be respected, can he? Enter Diplodialect<\/em>: a language Jar Jar must master in order to co-exist with other senators and representatives. There’s a lost cause if I ever did see one.<\/p>\n

As evident in the finished film, this concept was completely dropped, although poor Binks does his best to be coherent when around politicians. There are two scenes in some of the original versions of the script that deal with this concept.<\/p>\n

Here’s one excerpt from the 2nd draft of Attack of the Clones<\/em>:<\/p>\n

INT. SENATE BUILDING, APARTMENT CORRIDOR – EVENING<\/strong>
\nThe door to the apartment slides open. JAR JAR walks into the corridor, where TWO JEDI are exiting the elevator. He recognizes OBI-WAN and becomes extremely excited, jumping around, shaking his hand.<\/em><\/p>\n

Jar Jar
\nObi! Obi! Obi! Mesa sooo
\nsmilen to see’en yousa.
\nWahooooo!<\/p>\n

OBI-WAN smiles.<\/em><\/p>\n

Obi-Wan
\nIt’s good to see you,
\ntoo, Jar Jar.<\/p>\n

Jar Jar
\nOops! Wheresa mesa manners? Excuse me,
\nMaster Obi-Wan. I completely forgot
\nmyself for a moment there. I have had
\nto learn Diplodialect\u2026 speak it like a
\nnative now. Don’t really see the point,
\nactually, but members of the Senate
\nseem to prefer it\u2026<\/p>\n

JAR JAR notices OBI-WAN’s APPRENTICE.<\/em><\/p>\n

Jar Jar (continuing)
\n…and this, I take it, is your apprentice\u2026
\nNoooooooo! Annie? Noooooooo!
\nLittle bitty Annie? (looks at Anakin) Noooooooo!
\nYousa so biggen! Yiyiyiyyi! Annie!!
\nMesa no believen!<\/p>\n

Anakin
\nHi, Jar Jar.<\/p>\n

JAR JAR grabs hold of ANAKIN and envelops him in a big hug.<\/em><\/p>\n

Jar Jar
\nAnnie! Annie!
\nYiyiyiyiyiyiiii!<\/p>\n

INT. SENATE BUILDING, APARTMENT – EVENING<\/strong>
\nPADM\u00c9 is in a conference with CAPTAIN TYPHO and DORM\u00c9. JAR JAR enters the room, followed by the TWO JEDI.<\/em><\/p>\n

Jar Jar
\nLookie\u2026 lookie\u2026 Oops!
\nOh dear, I’m afraid I’ve forgotten
\nmyself again.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

From there it picks up as in the film where the Jedi greet the Senator. Later on in the film, when Padm\u00e9 is talking to Jar Jar before leaving Coruscant, the Gungan has some more dialogue that ended up being removed.<\/p>\n

Once again, an excerpt from the 2nd draft:<\/p>\n

INT. SENATE BUILDING, AMIDALA’S APARTMENT – DAY<\/strong>
\nANAKIN and JAR JAR stand near the door of the anteroom to PADM\u00c9’s bedroom. PADM\u00c9 and DORM\u00c9 move about packing luggage. <\/em><\/p>\n

Padm\u00e9
\nRepresentative Binks,
\nI know I can count on you.<\/p>\n

Jar Jar
\nYousa betchen mesa bottoms.<\/p>\n

Padm\u00e9
\nWhat??!!<\/p>\n

Jar Jar (coughs, recovers)
\nOh, pardone-ay, Senator. I mean,
\nI am honored to accept this heavy
\nburden. I take on this responsibility
\nwith deep humility tinged with an
\noverwhelming pride. (pompously)
\nIt is not every day that
\nI am called upon to\u2026<\/p>\n

PADM\u00c9 kisses him on the cheek and gives him a hug. JAR JAR turns red.<\/em><\/p>\n

Padm\u00e9
\nYou’re a good friend, Jar Jar.
\nI don’t wish to hold you up.
\nI’m sure you have a great
\ndeal to do.<\/p>\n

Jar Jar
\nOf course, M’Lady.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

JAR JAR STEPS UP<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jar Jar Binks, like many other Republic senators, was manipulated and played like a pawn. In this scene, which appears to have been trimmed for the theatrical release, Jar Jar feels he should be the one who requests the Chancellor be given emergency powers. His deleted lines are few but the fact that he’s been manipulated becomes more apparent. There are a few other lines here that were deleted so keep an eye out for them, including one by Bail Organa that was in one of the film’s trailers but ultimately deleted from the finished film.<\/p>\n

Here’s the excerpt from The Art of Attack of the Clones<\/a><\/em>:<\/p>\n

EXT. CORUSCANT, REPUBLIC EXECUTIVE BUILDING – DAY<\/strong>
\nLow Angle. A line of reflecting pools with splashing fountains flanked by statues on each side leads to the main entrance to the awesome building.<\/em><\/p>\n

INT. CORUSCANT, CHANCELLOR’S OFFICE – DAY<\/strong>
\nJedi (Yoda, Mace Windu, and Ki-Adi-Mundi) and Senators (Bail Organa, Ask Aak and Jar Jar) along with Palpatine and Mas Amedda discuss Obi-Wan\u00b4s message with growing concern.<\/em><\/p>\n

BAIL ORGANA
\nThe Commerce Guilds are preparing
\nfor war…there can be no doubt of that.<\/p>\n

PALPATINE
\nCount Dooku must have made
\na treaty with them.<\/p>\n

BAIL ORGANA
\nWe must stop them before
\nthey’re ready.<\/p>\n

JAR JAR
\nExcueeze me, yousa honorable
\nSupreme Chancellor, Sir.
\nMaybe dissen Jedi stoppen
\nthe rebel army.<\/p>\n

PALPATINE
\nMaster Yoda, how many Jedi are
\navailable to go to Geonosis?<\/p>\n

YODA
\nThroughout the galaxy, thousands
\nof Jedi there are. To send on a
\nspecial mission, only two hundred
\nare available.<\/p>\n

BAIL ORGANA
\nWith all due respect for the
\nJedi Order, that doesn’t sound
\nlike enough.<\/p>\n

YODA
\nThrough negotiation the Jedi
\nmaintains peace. To start a war
\nwe do not intend.<\/p>\n

ASK AAK
\nThe debate is over, now we
\nneed that clone army…<\/p>\n

BAIL ORGANA
\nUnfortunately, the debate is not over.
\nThe Senate will never be able to
\napprove the use of that army
\nbefore the separatists attack.<\/p>\n

MAS AMEDDA
\nThis is a crisis! The Senate must
\nvote the Chancellor emergency
\npowers! He could then approve the
\nuse of the clones.<\/p>\n

PALPATINE
\nBut what Senator would have
\nthe courage to propose such a
\nradical amendment?<\/p>\n

MAS AMEDDA
\nIf only Senator Amidala
\nwere here.<\/p>\n

Jar Jar steps forward from the back of the group.<\/em><\/p>\n

JAR JAR
\nMesa mosto Supreme Chancellor…
\nMesa gusto pallos. Mesa proud to
\nproposing the motion to give yousa
\nHonor emergency powers.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

JAR JAR’S BIG SPEECH<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>After Jar Jar privately volunteers to ask the Senate to give Palpatine emergency powers, he has to actually do the deed before his fellow Senators in a session. This is Jar Jar’s big moment in the film and in this excerpt, you’ll get to see a little more of his impassioned speech. Little does he know, he’s playing into the hands of a madman who will soon wreak havoc upon the galaxy. Look for some more dialogue in this scene from Palpatine and Mas Amedda as well.<\/p>\n

Here’s the excerpt from The Art of Attack of the Clones<\/a><\/em>:<\/p>\n

INT. CORUSCANT, MAIN SENATE CHAMBER, UPPER CORRIDOR – EVENING<\/strong>
\nMace Windu walks down an upper corridor and meets Yoda, who is sitting on a ledge overlooking the Senate chamber.<\/em><\/p>\n

Inside the great rotunda, the uproar is even louder. Opposing Senators yell furiously at one another.<\/em><\/p>\n

MAS AMEDDA
\nOrder! Order!!<\/p>\n

Finally, the uproar dies.<\/em><\/p>\n

PALPATINE
\nIn the regrettable absence of Senator
\nAmidala, the chair recognizes the Senior
\nRepresentative of Naboo,
\nJar Jar Binks.<\/p>\n

Amid a conflicting storm of cheers and boos, Jar Jar, with two Gungan Aides, floats on his pod to the middle of the vast space. He looks at Palpatine nervously. Palpatine nods. Jar Jar clears his throat.<\/em><\/p>\n

JAR JAR
\nSenators, dellow felogates…<\/p>\n

Laughter. Jeers. Jar Jar blushes.<\/em><\/p>\n

MAS AMEDDA
\nOrder! The Senate will accord
\nthe Representative the courtesy
\nof a hearing.<\/p>\n

Comparative quiet. Jar Jar grips the edge of the podium.<\/em><\/p>\n

INT CORUSCANT, MAIN SENATE CHAMBER – EVENING<\/strong>
\nJar Jar stands in his pod as it floats in the middle of the vast space.<\/em><\/p>\n

JAR JAR
\nIn response to the direct threat to
\nthe Republic, meesa propose that the
\nSenate give immediately emergency
\npowers to the Supreme Chancellor.<\/p>\n

Uproar. Jar Jar looks a little sheepish.<\/em><\/p>\n

Brief silence, then a rolling wave of applause. Jar Jar beams and bows.<\/em><\/p>\n

Palpatine rises.<\/em><\/p>\n

PALPATINE
\nIt is with great reluctance that I have
\nagreed to this calling. I love democracy\u2026
\nI love the Republic. But I am mild by nature,
\nand I do not desire to see the destruction
\nof democracy. The power you give me I will
\nlay down when this crisis has abated,
\nI promise you. And as my first act with this
\nnew authority, I will create a grand army of
\nthe Republic to counter the increasing
\nthreats of the separatists.<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n
