{"id":3191,"date":"2014-01-09T17:10:24","date_gmt":"2014-01-09T22:10:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/starwarz.com\/tbone\/?p=3191"},"modified":"2014-10-14T10:03:51","modified_gmt":"2014-10-14T15:03:51","slug":"a-new-collecting-magazine-hits-the-stands","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/starwarz.com\/tbone\/a-new-collecting-magazine-hits-the-stands\/","title":{"rendered":"A New Collecting Magazine Hits the Stands"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/coolandcollected.com\/product\/cool-collected-magazine-issue-1-print-edition-winter-2013\/\">Cool &amp; Collected<\/a><\/b> is the name of the new magazine that just began its run this winter, prompted by a successful Kickstarter campaign.\u00a0 The tagline for the magazine is, \u201cThe magazine for pop culture collectors.\u201d \u00a0The first issue has an article about everyone&#8217;s favorite bounty hunter, Boba Fett!<\/p>\n<p>A magazine, you ask? \u00a0Well, for the Kickstarter generation, you may not realize this, but people used to have to spend considerable time looking for the things they liked to collect. \u00a0Looking at this magazine brought to mind memories of how collecting used to be and how far it has come.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><i>A review and look inside <a href=\"http:\/\/doomkick.com\/cool-collected-magazine-issue-1-review\/\">the first issue can be found here<\/a>.\u00a0 For a better look, you can purchase from the link above.\u00a0 <\/i><\/p>\n<p>We all know that the Internet has changed the way we acquire and process information.\u00a0 Long gone are the days when it was necessary to read the morning paper and wait for the televised evening news to tell you what was going on in the world.\u00a0 Now, everything (whether you want to know it or not) is just a click away.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>For the collector, the change has been just as dramatic.\u00a0 Those of us who have the bad habit of collecting anything and everything related to Star Wars used to have to check the stores, watch or read the news for advertisements, or wait for the new catalog to come in the mail.\u00a0 If you never had the joy of opening the <a href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_lpL870wV2A4\/TJkWICbyYOI\/AAAAAAAAFOs\/qPBh4txObMY\/s400\/SearsWishbook_1979C_P618.jpg\">Christmas Sears catalog<\/a>, you really missed out.<\/p>\n<p>Some people had comic book stores or specialty shops in their area that could be good for some news, but otherwise you just \u2026 waited.<\/p>\n<p>The era of the collecting magazine has sort of come and gone really.\u00a0 I say that because most of them have succumbed to the fact that people don\u2019t need to wait for their information anymore.\u00a0 With tons of websites getting insider information, conventions in every corner of the country, and eBay, it is not that difficult to find out what is coming well in advance and get whatever you want, old or new.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Toy Shop<\/span> magazine was one of those toy publications that weathered the Internet and eBay storm for awhile.\u00a0 It morphed from a newsprint rag of advertisements and dealers looking to sell, to the more conventional glossy magazine style.\u00a0 However, it just couldn\u2019t compete, and in 2008 it ceased publication.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><i>For a REALLY cool look into the pages of Toy Shop magazine and what it had to offer Star Wars collectors, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sandcrawler.com\/webpages\/chrisgscrapbook\/\">click here for Chris Georgoulias\u2019 Toy Shop Scrapbook<\/a>.\u00a0 You won\u2019t be disappointed.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">ToyFare<\/span> was a magazine that had a very different method of bringing consumers the collecting news they desired. \u00a0I felt it was very effective with its sophomoric comedic style.\u00a0 I\u2019d call this the Mad Magazine of toy collecting, and I must say that I for one miss the crazy humor within its pages.\u00a0 Several former staffers went on to help create the\u00a0Adult Swim\u00a0program\u00a0<i>Robot Chicken<\/i>\u00a0with actor\u00a0Seth Green. \u00a0If you\u2019ve seen the show and the magazine, this fact is very obvious.\u00a0 Unfortunately, ToyFare and it\u2019s counterpart, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Wizard<\/span>, which focused on Comics and comic related products, ceased publication in 2011.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Lee\u2019s Toy Review<\/span> is one other major publication that had great information and pictures from all areas of toy collecting.\u00a0 The last issue released was #220 which came out in 2012, but there is still hope.\u00a0 After talking to someone at Lee\u2019s Toy Revew customer service, there is an edition in the works for 2014.\u00a0 Apparently Lee (yes there is a Lee) has had some issues and is still looking to get a new magazine out there in the near future.<\/p>\n<p>These \u201cToy Mags\u201d spanned the gap between the \u201cdark ages\u201d of collecting and the \u201cgolden age\u201d that we are seeing today where news is abundant and anything can be had if you have the cash. \u00a0Can <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Cool &amp; Collected<\/span> keep the flame of collector magazines flickering?
